Diabetes - Type 2
Diabetes mellitus type 2 or type 2 diabetes is a disease that is characterized by high blood glucose in relation to insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. Although it is often initially managed by increasing exercise and dietary modification, medicines are usually needed as the disease progresses.
Unlike type 1 diabetes, there is little tendency to ketoacidosis in type 2 diabetes, although it is not unknown. (ketoacidosis: the liver breaks the fat and proteins in response to a perceived need for respiratory substrate).

Prevention
The emergence of type 2 diabetes often can be delayed with good nutrition and regular exercise. Interest arose in the prevention of diabetes through research via the benefits of the treatment of patients before overt diabetes.
Treatment
Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a chronic progressive disease that has no set cure, but there are treatments, which can delay or completely prevent the inevitable consequences of this initial state. Frequently, disease is viewed as progressive, since the mismanagement of blood sugar leads to a myriad of ever-worsening problems. However, if blood sugar is maintained properly, the disease is effectively treated.
Type 2 is initially treated with diet modifications and exercise, especially crucial in obese patients. The loss of weight, which improves the clinical picture is sometimes a small (2-5 kg or 4.4 to 11 lb).
Antidiabetic drugs
There are a number of medicines available for type 2 diabetics, most are inappropriate or even dangerous for the use of type 1 diabetes. They are divided into several classes and are not equivalent, nor can they be simply exchanged one for another. All are prescription drugs.
Insulin preparations
If antidiabetic drugs fail (or clinical benefit stops), insulin treatment may be needed - usually in addition to oral medication therapy - to maintain normal or near normal glucose.
